Queens Central: A Unified Transit Hub
A unified transit hub connecting to Manhattan, Long Island, NJ, CT, and beyond!
Currently, it is very difficult to get from Long Island to Manhattan jobs without travelling all the way to Grand Central/Penn Station. Queens Central Station will serve as a connecting hub of subway and railway lines allowing easy access to all parts of Midtown Manhattan directly from the station. This will help reduce pressure from Penn Station, which is overcrowded and dilapidated.
The station will be served by Metro-North, LIRR, Amtrak, and even NJT. It will directly connect to five subway lines, [E] [G] [M] [R] [7]. These subway lines will be rerouted from their current convergence under Queens Plaza to a new alignment directly parallel to the mainline tracks.
All tracks, mainline and subway, will be placed under a uniform glass station canopy, allowing easy transfers. There will be a Spanish platform solution, with 1 track between adjacent side platforms. There will be 24 tracks total, including 14 mainline tracks, 8 subway tracks, and 2 tracks for AirTrain LaGuardia.
Additionally, a shopping mall will be located in the station.
