Pune Metro Line 2: Mahalaxmi to Baner

Zoom high above (and low below) the road rage and smog of Pune!

This WEBEO explores the possibility of an additional metro rail line in the city of Pune, the 9th largest city in India. Pune is growing at an astonishing rate, especially northwards of the old city (Peth) area, yet its infrastructure is woefully undeveloped in its suburbs, particularly in that no rail transport whatsoever operates in suburban Pune, apart from the main railway line in the northern periphery. This line aims to solve the problems in both outer and inner Pune by decongesting roads of "scooties," decreasing pollution, and making travel in Pune for both locals and tourists more enjoyable.

The line runs on elevated viaducts over busy roads in the outskirts, but in the Old Pune area (Taware to Ganeshkhind) the metro is underground. Line 2 will intersect line 1 at Narayan Peth, centrally located on Laxmi Road. Line 2 also serves the increasingly urbanized Baner area and Shivajinagar Station, connecting more of Pune into a world-class transportation system.

Stations: Mahalaxmi, Manesh Society, Ramyanagari, Parijat Society, Taware, ST Colony, Swargate, Shukrawar Peth, Narayan Peth, Shaniwar Peth, Topakhana, Shivajinagar, Premnagar, Ganeshkhind, National Society, Varsha Park, Banargaon, Balewadi, Baner West.

Line Length = 18.08 km
Underground Distance = 9.05 km
Top Speed = 80 km/h
