Navi Mumbai Airport Sea Link

A bridge connecting Navi Mumbai International Airport with Mumbai city in only 18 minutes!

In this WEBEO, I have laid out a possible location of a trans-harbour highway bridge on Google Maps, linking the two sides of the Thane Creek together. The Mumbai metro region is growing rapidly and a new airport is being constructed to alleviate traffic at the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Sahar. This airport, along with the booming suburbs of Navi Mumbai City, need quick and efficient transport to old Bombay, but are currently restricted to the Sion-Panvel expressway as their only crossing point.

The new expressway I proposed will connect the airport, Panvel, and the Mumbai-Pune expressway directly with Mumbai, at a junction with Mumbai’s Eastern Freeway and the Sewri-Chembur link road, providing easy connections to Sewri, Worli, Fort/CST, Nariman Point, and the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). It will be six lanes and consist of two cable-stayed sections, the longer of which is 1.1km long. With the construction of the six-lane expressway, travel time from Panvel and the Navi Mumbai International Airport will decrease from 75 minutes to only 18 minutes.

Speed Limit = 100 km/h

Bridge Length = 11.7 kilometres
