Bangalore to Chennai Bullet Train
A high-speed bullet train connecting Bangalore and Chennai in only 1 hour and 15 minutes!
This WEBEO explores the possibilities of a high speed railway line between South India’s two most prominent cities: Bangalore and Chennai. Despite their relative proximity and economic ties, no high-speed rail currently connects the two cities. The fastest train (Shatabdi) takes 5 hours between the two cities.
The bullet train will reduce travel time between the two cities by approximately 75% to only 1 hour and 15 minutes. The high-speed railway line will mostly be built parallelly to the existing railway between the two cities, minimizing disruption both to transportation and the alignment’s surroundings. However, a 38-kilometre viaduct between Bangarapet and Vaniyambadi, as well as a 44-kilometre viaduct between Katpadi and Arakkonam, will have to be constructed due to topographical issues along the existing railway line.
In Bangalore, two new stations (Majestic and MG Road) will be constructed underground. The Chennai terminus will be at Chennai Central Railway Station.
This line will be electrified and have both ultra and regional high-speed trains. The ultra-high-speed trains will travel directly between Bangalore and Chennai nonstop with a top speed of 350 km/h. The regional high-speed trains travel at full speed, except they stop at other stations along the route.
Stations (CAPS = ULTRA HIGH-SPEED STOPS): BENGALURU-MAJESTIC, MG ROAD, Benniganahalli, Bangarapet, Vaniyambadi, Katpadi (Vellore), Arakkonam, Pattaravakkan, CHENNAI CENTRAL.
Line Length = 338 km
Top Speed = 350 km/h
Travel Time – 1 hr 15 min
