New London Thames Airport

27 May 2016

An all-encompassing WEBEO centred at an Airport!

This is the first WEBEO in which an entire airport is proposed. It is located in the Thames estuary around 26 miles east of Central London, or only 9 miles outside the M25 motorway. The existing London Heathrow Airport is at its capacity, and a new airport is vitally needed to keep London globally competitive. The airport is in Medway county just north of Gillingham and will have a terminal and four concourses, connected by an underground people mover. Some possible usages for such an airport are to keep Oneworld/British Airways at Heathrow and move other airlines to the new airport. Another option is to relocate all intercontinental flights to the new Thames Airport and keep regional flights at Heathrow.

In addition, this WEBEO combines rapid transit rail, high speed rail, and highway all in one package! A 6 mile high speed line from the existing Southeastern High Speed 1 Line will connect the airport to St. Pancras in 20 minutes. Also, a 5 mile extension of motorway will be constructed from the M2 Motorway. Finally, a people mover with six stations will serve the airport and its concourses.

Airport description: 1:06

High Speed Rail Link: 14:10
Motorway Link: 18:54
