Throgs Neck Second Span

15 April 2016

A second span connecting Long Island with the Mainland!

In this WEBEO, I investigate and propose a new possibility to increase capacity between Bay Terrace, NY (Long Island) and Throg's Neck (Mainland). This bridge is the easternmost road crossing over the Long Island Sound and more than 200,000 vehicles use the crossing everyday for travelling between New England, Upstate New York, New Jersey, and Eastern Long Island. The new span will hold northbound Interstate 295 traffic, and will consist of both a suspension section and cantilever section. Slip roads in the southern end will connect to the Cross Island Parkway. On the northern end, the toll plaza will be replaced by all-electronic tolling. The total amount of lanes on each span will become 5 lanes and 1 shoulder, up from 3 lanes and 0 shoulders each direction on the current span.
